Dbvisit simplifies it's licensing models

There is interesting news from Dbvisit out this month, well interesting if software licensing is your thing.  So it was good to see the small and nimble Kiwi vendor re-acting swiftly to customer and partner feedback.

License model’s for Dbvisit’s products Standby & Replicate have generally been aligned to Oracle’s license models.  However, with the changes to Oracle SE2 licensing now in place, the licensing permutations increase yet again when mixed with legacy options increasing complexity.  Now we all know Oracle relishes complexity even though customers and partners just want straight forward and relevant licensing.  Dbvisit now provide straightforward - even dare we say simple licensing.

PRICING MODEL UPDATE

The introduction of Oracle SE2 and the two-socket limit, an ever increasing move to cloud databases deployment, makes the per socket pricing for Dbvisit products no longer relevant for everyone based on unanimous feedback from customers and partners alike.

Dbvisit have now made two changes to it’s pricing model.   The first being immediately implemented is for Oracle SE2 users.  From 01 February 2016, and the second update, for Oracle remaining products, will be implemented on 01 April 2016.

WHAT ARE THE PRICING UPDATES?

There are two changes occurring as follows:

SE2 PRICING MODEL UPDATE 01 FEBRUARY 2016

This only applies for licensing Dbvisit products running on Oracle SE2.  Dbvisit will be removing the socket variable for Dbvisit Standby and Dbvisit Replicate and moving to per database pricing rather than a per socket pricing.

Notes:

1/ Standby: single-instance/multi-instance still applies, each primary and each secondary database must be licensed

2/ Replicate: each source and each target database must be licensed

3/ Minimum configuration for Dbvisit Standby is 2 databases (1 x primary, 1 x secondary)

4/ Minimum configuration for Dbvisit Replicate is 2 databases (1 x source, 1 x target)

PER DATABASE PRICING

The per database model will be extended to licensing all Dbvist products running on Oracle SE1, SE and EE from 1st April 2016

Dbvisit states “updates to our pricing to better conform with today’s computing models and how Oracle is pricing its databases.  We believe this will simplify pricing for partners and customers alike and encourage more Oracle users to benefit from the lower cost alternatives to Oracle products such as Dataguard and Goldengate
